Franco & l\ Franco & l' O.K. Jazz - Dix Ans Ya Révolution (1975)

Video duration: 332 seconds
Global video hits: 3591

Franco in 1975 playing his guitar in his own style of several years before. A one-off, never recorded, so Wuta Mayi, Josky Kiambukuta and Youlou Mabiala had to read the lyrics off a note. Not to be judged without some understanding of the historical context. Mobutu regularly made Franco "offers he couldn't refuse" during those years.

Not sure about the year. Youlou & Franco sing, Simaro or Brazzos rhythm guitar, Céli Bitshou bass, obviously, Ntoya maracas, Bosuma Dessoin percussion. No horns, but plenty of guitar: again, Franco is masterfully finding his way across the fretboard.

Two takes of the same song. Composed by bass player Céli Bitshou. Sung by Franco, Youlou and Boyibanda. With Simaro, Dessoin, Ntoya. This is the "normal" version, the better known one.

Two takes of the same song. Composed by bass player Céli Bitshou. Sung by Franco, Youlou and Boyibanda. With Simaro, Dessoin, Ntoya. This is the "crazy" version, the lesser known one. I am not a specialist in this field, but could it be Francois does this crazy stuff with the tremolo of his guitar, possibly a Fender Jaguar as seen in the latter part of this clip?

This is a special one. Not only are there not too many Verckys compositions on which Franco actually plays, but I do not know of another song in which Youlou and Vicky are actually singing together. I know of songs where they both sing parts of the same song, but never together like here.

Franco playing without the capo, still. Vicky Longomba singing the lead with Youlou Mabiala and Lola Chécain. First we hear Vicky, then a call and response with Youlou and Chécain doing the response, then we hear Vicky doubling with Lola Chécain. So, in this song, we hear Lola backing Youlou as well as Vicky. Isaac Musekiwa plays the alto sax on this.

Again, Vicky Longomba's angelic voice... Only seven people here, Boyibanda b-vox, possibly already Decca on bass, or Bitshou, Simaro, Dessoin, Ntoya and of course the Master on guitar.

Vicky Longomba, singer of L'O.K. Jazz from the start (or before, actually), b-vox Franco, and a guitar solo that will take you to heaven if it's only for little over half a minute. HEY! Others NEVER get there! Rhythm guitar: Armando Brazzos or Lutumba Simaro, bass: Céli Bitshou or Brazzos, percussion: Bosuma Dessoin, maracas: Ntoya, possibly. No horns!!

I've been told the title is Kikongo for Francois likes eating pigs' ears. So, although the picture was taken 23 years later (in Kenya) than when the song was recorded, I just couldn't resist using it here. Note the empty plate in front of manager Manzenza. Vocals, besides Fuala, Edo Nganga and Munsi Kwamy.
