The tone is mellow and deep with not even a hint of brightness. This is a numbered piece, but of professional grade. The pitch standard of middle A at 440 Hz was not set until about 1931 so instruments prior to that used two primary pitches "Low Pitch" with A at 335 Hz and "Concert Pitch" or "Vienna Pitch" with A at 440 Hz.
